Prayer for Whatcom County – March / April 2023
Kairos – defined as a favorable moment for decision or action – or - a
time when conditions are right for the accomplishment of a crucial
action: the opportune and decisive moment.
This prayer guide is going to be different. I was once advised, ‘go
where you see the Spirit of God moving.’ God is moving in ways we
have never before witnessed. Let’s press into the ‘Kairos’ of God,
pray with the Spirit, and ask Him to reveal His Kingdom on Earth as it
is in Heaven in dozens of ways. First, I’d like to give you some
current context.
Acts 3:19-20: Repent therefore, and turn back, that your sins may be
blotted out, 20 that times of refreshing may come from the presence of
the Lord, and that he may send the Christ appointed for you, Jesus….
We are in a Kairos moment of history. Many would say that of their
own lives or families, but I think we can agree it is definitely true of
our country and our world. This is a decisive moment. This is a
moment for the prayers of the church to impact the direction and
destiny of thousands of lives and even of whole people groups. God
will truly restore all things on the great and magnificent day of the
Lord (Acts 2:20), but before that final day He has generously given
times of refreshment for His body the church! This “times of
refreshing” is part of what we see beginning at Asbury University.
Super brief outline of God’s plan as we can see it:
-
2023 is the 200 th anniversary of the collegiate day of prayer.
-
Every year they live stream the collegiate day of prayer
worship service. One year ago they chose to do this from
Asbury University on Thursday 2-23-23.
-
On Feb 8 (2 weeks before the live stream) God in His Mercy
poured out His Holy Spirit on a chapel service at Asbury. This
service lasted over 360 hours.
-
On Wednesday the 22 nd the movie “Jesus Revolution” began in
theaters nationwide. This is the story of the revival of the early
70’s (right when Asbury had a revival that sparked the
movement)
-
For the first time in history EVERY college in the country has
been adopted by a local ministry that agreed to pray for that
school.
-
This move of God has now spread to many other college
campuses (and other countries) and even some high schools
and middle schools.
-
Most of those schools are Christian schools (but not all).
-
1000’s of lives have been changed forever, with spiritual,
emotional, relational, mental, and physical healings.
Let us seize this moment – these 2 months to cry out every day that
the Spirit of the Living God will be poured out over Western,
Whatcom Community College, Bellingham Technical College and
Northwest Indian College, then into all our schools for the
transformation of tens of thousands of lives for the Glory of God!
What school are you closest to or most connected to? Can you agree
with your small group, or your family to pray for the school every
week? Every day? If we each do this every school in the county will
be covered by regular fervent Kingdom seeking prayer. If you do,
please email or text Tim Scott (timscott@lowpc.org), or if you want
to be part of the education prayer walking team.
Pray this promise of God: Joel 2:28,29 and Acts 2:17-18
“And it shall come to pass afterward,
that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh;
your sons and your daughters shall prophesy,
your old men shall dream dreams,
and your young men shall see visions.
29 Even on the male and female servants
in those days I will pour out my Spirit.”
Two of the God stories from 2022 in our world.
-
In the Middle East and North Africa there were more than
570,000 house churches established – new worshipping
communities – most of which are in areas very hostile to the
Christian faith. Glory to God! This represents over 8 million
new believers.
-
In all of Africa tens of thousands of churches agreed to fast
and pray for people they knew who did not know Christ. They
specifically fasted and prayed during the month of April and
then each member began sharing their faith in May – every
day. During May the church grew by 60 million people – new
believers! In one month! God is on the move pouring out His
Spirit!!
I believe the outpouring of the Spirit on the believers beginning at
Asbury and continuing across our country is to ignite us – believers in
the USA - to pray for the salvation of every one of our neighbors!
Here are three spiritual concepts captured from the Asbury revival:
personal confession, holiness, and worship to the One who is
worthy of love and honor and worship. This is available to us too.
Please spend time speaking these verses out loud with repetition.
Declare, proclaim, lament, sing, pray and praise our might God with
them.
1 John 1:8 - If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us
our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
Hebrews 9:14 - how much more will the blood of Christ, who through
the eternal Spirit offered himself without blemish to God, purify our
conscience from dead works to serve the living God.
Psalm 29:2 - Ascribe to the LORD the glory due His Name;
worship the LORD in the splendor of holiness.
1 Chronicles 29:11 - Yours, O LORD, is the greatness and the power and
the glory and the victory and the majesty, for all that is in the heavens
and in the earth is yours. Yours is the kingdom, O LORD, and you are
exalted as head above all.
Revelation 4:11 - Worthy are you, our Lord and God,
to receive glory and honor and power,
for you created all things,
and by your will they existed and were created.
Psalm 145:13 - Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom,
and your dominion endures through all generations.
The LORD is trustworthy in all He promises and faithful in all He
does.
God is moving in our world in waking believers up to His beauty and
Worth and empowering believers to share their faith and see a great
harvest of lost and broken people coming to Christ. Let’s pray for
both in Whatcom County – beginning with you! And then the youth.
Prayer request from campus ministries: Pray for spiritual hunger in
students on campus, a hunger for God's Word, a conviction of sin
from the Holy Spirit. And pray for us, that all our missionaries and
student leaders would be bold, so that when the Lord moves, we
would be in the right place at the right time to join Him.
Pray that God’s Spirit will be free to exalt the Name of Jesus in every
spere of society – again focusing first on our younger generation!
In Art/Media – Father be glorified in and through our students and
their posts.
In worship – pray for Christ exalting worship in local churches and
throughout the week in dorms and bible studies.
In our Families – Father we pray for the restoration of Your sense of
family among students, in the church and in our homes.
Local prayers for Haven Church –
Continue to pray that God will lead us to or bring the right man,
couple, family to us to be our pastor. We are looking for a pastor who
will be an equipper of the body so that we can do the ministry work
that God has gifted and called us to do.
Pray that God will continue to guide the church board as they lead
the church.
Pray for the moving of the Holy Spirit in our services, our Bible
Studies, prayer meetings, youth gatherings, that the Holy Spirit will
come in power and minister to His people.
Pray for revival to come in Nooksack Valley, the Nooksack Schools,
and in Whatcom County.
Perhaps the most important prayer – pray that God will prepare His
people for this movement of His Spirit. That all of us would be ready
to jump in and be harvesters in the fields, which even now are ready
for harvest.
